While there are other neighborhood programs providing after school activities, only The Bridge operates a “holistic” model that addresses academics, health, social enrichment, mentoring, job skills training and jobs. The Bridge Urban Springfield (BUS) program represents an integration of after-school and summer camp programs and services conscientiously designed to directly address the issues that affect children from Jacksonville’s most overburdened families. The model serves an active after school enrollment of 224 students, ages 6 to 18. Every day BUS staff battles the academic and social problems facing children living in extreme poverty. Bridge Urban Springfield students learn and grow through: Reading/ math skills; FCAT/ homework help; Daily nutritious snack and evening meal; Health and Dental Care; Mental Health Counseling; Straight Talk Sexuality Education; Job skills training and employment; Sports Activities; Art classes; Mentoring.
