Definitions:
- Day Camp: Registered ( Summer) Day Camps provide care only for school children in a program that operates for more than two weeks but no more than fifteen weeks during the summer, and for a maximum of seven hours a day. No Inspections for Registered Child Day Camps are available. Registered Day Camps must register each year but are not subject to inspection by the department.
- Background Checks: Day Camps, both Registered and Approved, are required by law to complete criminal background checks for all camp staff appointed or hired for employment. ODJFS is responsible for completing a random sampling of registered day camps to determine compliance with this requirement.
- Public Funding: In order to qualify for public funding, a registered day camp must also be approved by the American Camping Association, or be inspected and approved by ODJFS.
