Nationally the largest provider of childcare, there are currently 2,686 YMCAs across the nation. Goals were manifested initially in 1851 as an alternative to the “wicked life on the streets”. No other organization even remotely approaches the YMCAs as a provider of community programs. The YMCA of the USA has established a nationwide program for training and certification of YMCA staff.
