Details:
Donnie Danner began studying Wado Ryu in 1976, receiving his Shodan just three years later in 1979. He was head instructor for one of the largest commercial Dojos in Tennessee for over six years. In 1988 he founded his own Dojo system in Mt Juliet, Tennessee with the opening of the Danner Karate Center. 24 Years later, Danner Karate Center is still going strong, offering the finest karate instruction in Tennessee. In 1990 Donnie joined Tatsuo Suzuki 8th Dan Hanshi. Due to his humble nature, he lowered his rank to Sandan so that he could test and receive his Yondan from Tatsuo Suzuki. It only took a couple of years for Tatsuo to see Donnie's commitment and skill, so Tatsuo Suzuki graded him back to Yondan. Donnie Danner has been one of the top competitors in the US in Kumite for a number of years. In 1991, he traveled throughout Japan on a good will tour and competed in Takayama, Japan. 1993 was a big year for Donnie. He traveled extensively throughout the United States competing as often as possible. By the end of the year he was #1 Champion in the Regional Sport Karate Circuit, a well as #1 in the NASKA World Championships. To top it all off, he was on the USA team at the World Championships in Athens, Greece. Donnie won the bronze medal in the over 35 division. The only competitors placing above him were two former WUKO World Champions: William Millerson and Nieman Prince. In 1995 Donnie returned to Japan for a second tour and was picked to compete on the USA Team in a challenge match in Iwakuni against the Japanese College Arts Stars. He was successful here as well, leaving the cmpetition without a loss. In 1995 Tatsuo Suzuki placed Donnie in charge of all Wado Schools in Tennessee. The culmination of an outstanding competition career has to be Donnie's performance in the 1997 WIKF World Cup held in Orlando, Florida. He was selected to be one of the USA coaches for Team Competition. He placed second in the over 35 division. In placing second, he defeated Conroy Wattley in the Semi finals. Conroy Wattley was a 1989 World Champion, four-time European Champion, and four-time National Champion (England). His match with John Wicks for the championships was very close with Wicks getting the decision. John Wicks is considered by many, to be one of the best fighters Tatsuo Suzuki has ever produced and a four-time European Champion.
