Kaimuki Kempo

1132 Koko Head Ave, Honolulu, HI
Kaimuki Kempo School. The martial art of Kempo began in Hawaii in the 1960's as a result of a collaboration between instructors of different martial arts. Their goal was to blend their different martial arts into a new one that incorporated elements of all of their knowledge and experience. They included kicking and punching from kickboxing, karate, and boxing, throws, chokes and joint locks from judo and jiujitsu, and various elements from a few other martial art. In a sense it was one of the first "mixed martial arts" styles. In recent years, the popularity of mixed martial arts has caused a shift in martial arts training from "traditional" training to more "results" based training. The emphasis in training has become more focused on finding the most effective techniques to use in competitions and real life situations.
