Karate is empty hand self-defense using appropriate parts of the body in various blocking, kicking, punching, and striking techniques against one or more assailants. Karate is not purely physical power, but rather a deep mental training and philosophical outlook on everyday life which cultivates strong character, spirit, and body, as well as technique. Spiritual and technical development is the ultimate goal of karate.
