Chinese Martial Arts Institute

8426 Lee Hwy, Fairfax, VA
The Chinese martial arts, properly known as "Wu Shu" (literally “War Art”) in China or "Kung Fu" in the U.S., are over 5,000 years old and are the most widely practiced of all sports in China. Included under the umbrella of Wu Shu is the well know discipline of Taiji or Tai Chi. Wu Shu started Karate, Tae Kwon Do and Jujitsu, and it has influenced all of the Asian martial arts known today. However, despite many similar characteristics, Kung Fu as it is practiced at CMAI differs significantly from those types of martial arts in that we still have a more holistic implementation of the various aspects of Chinese martial arts rather than digressing into specialty areas (i.e. Tae Kwon Do which focuses on kicking) which tend to ignore very pragmatic and viable martial art methods. At the Chinese Martial Arts Institute, one can still experience the “real deal” authentic martial arts that can work in the street or in a competition.
