Founded in 1968 the Academy of Martial Arts began its long tradition of martial arts education as a Tracy’s Karate franchise under the guidance of Rocco Bavuso. In 1971 the Dojo changed hands and then was guided by Peter (Perry) Ferlise. This is when Sensei Mark J. Speranza started his own martial art and spiritual quest.
Through the years the Dojo has been known as a place of true martial and spiritual teachings. Sensei Mark, now a 6th Degree Black Belt, having studied many styles, brought in many techniques, philosophies and strategies from these other styles. He journeyed to the heart of traditional martial arts learning, in Japan, to study Ninjutsu (Ninpo), becoming a direct personal student, under world famous Grandmaster Tanemura, Shoto for over 13 years.
In the year 1996, Sensei Mark J. Speranza, brought his search for the spiritual side of the martial arts to completion when he became a direct personal apprentice under Rev. Dr. J.C. Husfelt and his wife Sherry Husfelt.
The year 2001 brought Sensei Mark’s quest full circle as he was initiated into the traditions of the old time healers and spiritual leaders. 2001 also saw Sensei Mark continue his search for higher martial learning, becoming a personal student of Sensei Joseph Svaral, Dojo-cho of the Shinken Bujutsu Dojo.
